Four short buildings on 67th Street appear in the background of 1977’s Annie Hall for about a second. It’s only a brief moment from the forty year old Academy Award winning (Best Picture) film. In 40 years a LOT of construction has transformed this area. So, I wanted to know: Do these “4 sisters” still stand?
The four buildings on 67th Street:
Woody stands on 2nd Avenue and 68th. From here today you would no longer be able to view the buildings. A large glass facade high-rise now exists on this corner. Notice the grey construction fence here in 1977. It appear construction of the high-rise was beginning on the cleared lot. . So the question I wanted answered was, Do these four still exist? The DID in 2011:
Today, 3 of the 4 are the same, but not the 3rd one from the left. The L’Absinthe restaurant was kicked out, the upper facade removed and two stories have been tacked on to the top.
